In Ukraine, the agricultural season is confidently approaching its finish line with strong results. Total grain production has nearly reached 58 million tons. According to updated data, as of January 1, 2026 – grain and leguminous crops had been harvested on more than 11.01 million hectares, accounting for 95% of the planned area. Farmers have already threshed 57.6 million tons of grain, with the national average yield reaching 5.25 tonnes per hectare.
Fieldwork continues on late crops, where steady positive dynamics are also being recorded. In particular, more than 27.7 million tons of corn have been harvested from over 89% of the sown area, with an average yield of 7.13 t/ha. Buckwheat harvesting is nearly complete, with about 82.7 thousand tons collected at a yield of 13.9 c/ha. Millet has also shown solid performance, with more than 62 thousand tons harvested and an average yield of 17.4 c/ha.
Oilseed crops continue to demonstrate strong results as well. More than 9.2 million tons of sunflower have been threshed from 93% of the planned area, while soybean harvesting is almost complete, totalling nearly 4.8 million tons. The sugar beet campaign has also been successfully completed: nearly 11 million tons of root crops were harvested from almost 199 thousand hectares, with the average yield exceeding 55 t/ha.
Alongside production achievements, Ukrainian farmers are receiving international support. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has presented a three-year assistance plan for Ukraine’s agricultural sector for 2026–2028. Under this initiative, nearly 240 thousand farmers and rural households will benefit from various forms of support — including seeds, fodder, financial assistance, grants, vouchers, grain storage facilities, and agricultural land demining.
The program will be implemented in cooperation with the Government of Ukraine and aligns with the strategic priorities of the sector’s development. It creates conditions not only to overcome current challenges, but also to plan confidently for the future.
Despite all difficulties, Ukraine’s agricultural sector continues to demonstrate resilience, remaining a key pillar of the country’s food security and economic stability.
